ESWC NA – Un Compte Rendu
Une expérience d’apprentissage, un magnifique baptême de l’eSport, un melting-pot de gens passionnés et dédiés à la cause. Ce ne sont pas les qualificatifs qui manquent à cette première édition nord-américaine de l’ESWC (Electronic Sports World Cup). Bien entendu, l’événement n’était pas exempt de défauts, mais quel évènement de cette envergure l’est? Commençons par la journée de vendredi.
Le tournoi a commencé un peu plus tard que prévu, avec la présentation du documentaire Good Luck Have Fun. Le documentaire était une parfaite initiation au monde de l’eSport et une belle introduction au tournoi. Suite au documentaire, Vincent “Elemental” Doré-Millet s’est présenté sur la scène pour se présenter et introduire Arman Afkhami et Stéphanie Harvey, respectivement directeur général et directrice des tournois pour le Mondial des Jeux Loto-Québec, qui ont chacun présenté le tournoi a leur manière.
L’action a commencé immédiatement après le discours d’introduction, sans interruption, puisque les rondes de Call of Duty: Ghost et de Just Dance se déroulait l’une après l’autre. C’est Joey “LucKeS” Rouges-Truchon, qui a eu l’honneur d’organiser et d’arbitrer le tournoi de CoD. Des quatres équipes présentes, c’est Team JusTus qui à su se hisser à la première place et obtenir ainsi le billet d’avion et une place dans la finale mondiale de l’ESWC. La seconde place a été obtenue par l’équipe de Boréal Gaming, suivi de DeForeX et de Vicious and Delicious pour la quatrième place. Les matches étaient de haut calibre et c’était un réel plaisir de les regarder, particulièrement avec l’énergie électrisante des spectateurs présents au Théatre Télus. Entre chaque ronde de CoD, les 8 meilleurs danseurs du Complexe Desjardins se sont battus eux aussi pour avoir la chance d’aller à Paris pour la finale mondiale de Just Dance, durant la Paris Game Week. Les deux finalistes étaient Che Tan et Oscar Ojeda Gomez qui, en plus d’être excellents danseurs, étaient particulièrement sympathiques. L’équipe Montreal Gaming a même obtenu une interview avec les deux finalistes, mais ça, ça fera partie d’un autre article! Finalement, après une compétition acharnée, c’est Che Tan qui a emporté le trophée, le titre de champion nord-américain et le billet d’avion pour Paris. Bon gagnant, il est resté pour le reste de la journée et est revenu nous voir samedi dans la journée pour continuer d’humilier tout le monde à Just Dance. Good times were had.
Parlant de samedi, la journée a commencé en force avec du Counter-Strike: Global Offensive! À l’horaire, les quarts de finale, la demi-finale, la finale et le match pour la troisième place! Simultanément, une compétition de Street Fighter et de Super Smash Bros. Se déroulait dans le club Lamouche. Dans la grande salle du théatre Télus, Elemental gardait tout le monde réchauffé entre les manches de CS avec plus de Just Dance! Parmi les participants (parfois forcés), Che Tan, Arman Afkhami, Stéphanie Harvey, Elemental lui-même et même notre propre éditeur en chef, Félix Prégent! Plusieurs autres ont aussi été forcés de se produire sur scène pour le plaisir de la salle, du stream et de notre très cruel présentateur. Le tournoi, orchestré et arbitré de main de maitre par Philippe-Olivier “Pex” Crépin, s’est conclut sur la victoire écrasante de IBUYPOWER sur les autres équipes. Seul Mobility Gaming a su leur opposer une certaine résistance durant la grande finale, gagnant ainsi une deuxième place dans le tournoi et une place dans la finale de l’ESWC, a Paris. La troisième place a été accordée à Team aBunch et Armata Gaming, la quatrième place.
Les deux jours de l’ESWC NA se sont conclut par un after-party au club Lamouche, la musique était bonne, l’ambiance était au rendez-vous et l’alcool coulait a flots. Une belle soirée.
En tout et pour tout, l’édition 2014 était une expérience d’apprentissage pour tous les partis impliqués. Il y a eu des erreurs, il y a eu des bons coups, mais avec une équipe aussi dévouée et aussi passionnée, tout le monde est passé à travers et tout le monde a eu du plaisir. L’équipe de Montréal Gaming a eu énormément de plaisir à organiser le tournoi de Call of Duty, à aider à faire rouler le tournoi durant la fin de semaine et à couvrir l’évènement. Pour conclure, il n’y a rien d’autre à faire que de remercier tous ceux qui ont participé de près ou de loin à l’élaboration de ces deux jours de eSports montréalais, ceux qui ont organisé autant que ceux qui y ont participé. L’équipe de Montreal Gaming voudrait remercier particulièrement Team JusTus, Pamaj, Revan, Team Boréal, Team Armata, Multijoueur, Xtreme Gaming Quebec, iWeb, CyberActiv et, le dernier, mais non le moindre, toute l’équipe du Mondial des Jeux Loto-Québec pour avoir vu cet évènement a terme. C’est à peine fini et nous avons tous déjà très hâte à l’édition 2015!

ESWC NA – A Report
A learning experience, a wonderful eSport babtism and a melting pot of passionate and dedicated people. There’s no shortage of names to call this first edition of the North-American ESWC (Electronic Sports World Cup) Qualifier in Montreal. Of course, the event wasn’t perfect, but what is? Let’s start the report with Friday.
The tournament started a bit later than scheduled with the presentation of the Good Luck Have Fun documentary. The short movie was an excellent initiation to the world of eSports and a great introduction into the tournament. Following that, Vincent “Elemental” Doré-Millet presented himself, Arman Afkhami and Stephanie Harvey, respectively the presenter, the general director of the Mondial des jeux Loto-Québec and the director of tournaments. Each of them introduced the tournament and the event.
The tournament itself started immediately after with the first match of Call of Duty: Ghost. Reffed and organized by Joey “LucKeS” Rouges-Truchon (Head of Montreal Gaming) action was non-stop for the whole day, each round of CoD being followed by a round of Just Dance. Of the four team competing for the CoD title, only Team JusTus managed to grap the title, the plane ticket and the hotel for the ESWC finals. The second place has been won by Boréal Gaming, followed by DeForeX and Vicious and Delicious. The matches were intense and it was a real pleasure watching them, especially with the electrifying energy of the crowd inside the Telus Theater. Between each round of CoD was one of Just Dance, where the 8 best dancers from the open competition at the Complexe Desjardins fought each other for the first place and a spot at the finals, at the Paris Game Week. The two finalists were Che Tan and Oscar Ojeda Gomez whom, as well as being great dancers, were very nice guys. The Montreal Gaming team also got an interview with both guys, but that’s for another article. In the end, after a hard competition, Che Tan got the prize. Being the cool guy that he is, he stayed with us Saturday to play some more and humiliate us further. Good times were had all around.
Speaking of Saturday, it started strong with some Counter-Strike: Global Offensive! Scheduled were the quarterfinals, the semifinals, the finals and the match for the third place! Simultaneously, a competition of Street Fighter and Super Smash Bros was happening at the Club Lamouche. On the main stage, Elemental was keeping everyone entertained between each CS match by making everyone play Just Dance! Among the participants (sometimes forced) were Che Tan, Arman Afkhami, Stéphanie Harvey, Elemental and even our Editor-in-Chief, Félix Prégent! Many others were also forced to dance for the enjoyment of the crowd, of the stream and of Elemental. The tournament, masterfully orchestrated and reffed by Philippe-Olivier “Pex” Pépin, was won by Team IBUYPOWER. The American team destroyed all of the other teams but Mobility Gaming who was able to resist the onslaught for a time, before being swiped away. The third place was given to Team aBunch and the fourth, to Armata Gaming.
The two days were closed with an after-party at the club Lamouche. The music was good, the ambiance was nice and booze was flowing. It was a great time.
All in all, the 2014 edition was a learning experience for everyone involved. There were errors and there were good moves but with such a devoted and talented team we all got through it and fun was had. The team of Montreal Gaming had a total blast in organizing the Call of Duty tournament, helping to run the whole thing during the weekend and covering the whole thing. In conclusion, there’s nothing left to do except to thank everyone who helped make those two days of Quebec eSports. We’d like to particularly thank Team JusTus, Pamaj, Revan, Team Boréal, Team Armata, Multijoueur, Xtreme Gaming Quebec, iWeb. CyberActiv and, last but not least, all the team behind the Mondial des Jeux Loto-Québec for making this event a reality and a success. It’s barely over and we’re all really expecting the 2015 edition!!
