Ligue Mondiale de Call of Duty 2017
Le Northern Arena Showdown 2017 était la première fois qu’un tournoi de La Ligue Mondiale de Call of Duty se jouerait au Canada. Montréal a réuni les meilleures équipes de CoD Esports pour la fin de semaine du 16 et 17 décembre, qui se disputent un prix de 30.000$ et des Pro Points.
La foule était en feu tout le week-end et les roulettes ont gardé l’ambiance électrique. Malgré l’absence de l’équipe Kaliber, d’autres poids lourds ont rendu le tournoi excitant. Le tournoi a commencé avec un jeu de compétence tout de suite, avec seulement huit équipes, il n’y avait pas besoin de jouer sans rivalité.

QUARTS DE FINALES DE GAGNANTS :
Luminosity Gaming vs NexTThreat :
Le premier match du tournoi avait Luminosity Gaming (LG) [Slacked, Octane, JKap et John] contre NexTThreat [Censor, Ricky, Methodz, Nagafen]. Le premier match était une Ardennes Forest Hardpoint très disputée, qui allait et venait presque tout le match. LG a pris le contrôle de la dernière partie du jeu et a remporté une victoire 250-235.
Le deuxième match de la série était une Ardennes Forest Search And Destroy. NexTThreat a répondu à la défaite avec une victoire de 6-3, avec Methodz qui s’en est allé avec une fiche de 12-5 K/D.
Le troisième match de la série ; London Docks Capture the Flag, était un match de haute classification qui a vu NexTThreat sauter sur une avance rapide. Après la capture initiale du drapeau, les équipes ont commencé à échanger des drapeaux jusqu’à ce que LG l’amène à une égalité de 4-4. Une fois le match à égalité, LG s’est échappé avec une défaite de 9-4, la majorité des drapeaux étant marqués dans la dernière moitié de la deuxième mi-temps.
LG a terminé son match de tableau du quart de finale des gagnants avec une victoire dominante de 250-156.

Team EnvyUs vs Echo Fox :
Le premier match de l’équipe Envy [Slasher, Classique, Huke, Temp] contre Echo Fox [Assaut, Faccento, Gunless, Goonjar] était un Gibraltar Hardpoint. Ce jeu était un autre va-et-vient qu’a fini avec Echo Fox en remportant la victoire contre les garçons en bleu 250-243.
Le Team EnvyUs n’a pas été éliminé par la défaite d’un match, et dans le deuxième match [Sainte Marie du Mont Search and Destroy], ils se sont rétablis en remportant une victoire 6-1.
Le troisième match de la série a été une Ardennes Forest Capture the Flag, laquelle, dans la mode typique d’Ardennes, a commencé très lentement. Après une première mi-temps très disputée, Team Envy a été capable de briser les défenses de l’Echo Fox et de remporter une victoire 2-0 dans les dernières minutes de la deuxième mi-temps.
Après la défaite déchirante dans le troisième match, Echo Fox a répondu furieusement dans Ardennes Forest Hardpoint pour forcer un match cinq avec une victoire 250-185.
Team EnvyUs a terminé la série avec une autre victoire décisive 6-2 dans USS Texas Search and Destroy.

eUnited vs Enigma6 :
eUnited [Clayster, Arcitys, Prestinni, SiLLY] était clairement un favori des fans, avec la foule chantant Clayster avant le début du match. Le premier match était un Sainte Marie du Mont Hardpoint que eUnited a repris Enigma6 [Général, Dashy, Pandur, GodRx] avec une victoire certaine de 250-180.

Le deuxième match de USS Texas Search and Destroy était beaucoup plus proche, avec Enigma6 serrant la manche 11 et assurant une victoire 6-5.
Le troisième match des London Docks Capture the Flag a été stressant : eUnited a réussi à se faufiler avec une casquette de la victoire, remportant le match 4-3.
Après deux matchs très serrés, il est apparu que E6 était grillé. Le quatrième match ; London Docks Hardpoint, a été une performance dominante pour eUnited car ils ont conclu la série dans une victoire 250-128.

Le dernier duel du samedi soir a vu FaZe Clan [Attach, ZooMaa, Priest, Replays] défie Ground Zero [Parasite, Blazt, Fero, Studyy].
Le premier type de jeu de la série était London Docks Hardpoint lequel Ground Zero a facilement pris avec une victoire de 250-134.
Le deuxième jeu ; London Docks Search and Destroy, était beaucoup plus compétitif. Après des tours de va-et-vient entre les équipes, Ground Zero a finalement remporté un tour onze après a moment crucial deux vs un de Fero.
Ground Zero a été en mesure de fermer la série dans Ardennes Forest Capture the Flag avec une victoire de 2-0, ce qui a envoyé FaZe Clan à de tableau de perdants.

Dimanche a débuté avec une confrontation tout bleu avec Luminosity Gaming contre Team EnvyUs.
Le premier match, dans la Forêt d’Ardennes, a été une bataille difficile qui s’est terminé par une victoire 250-220 de LG.
Avec l’arrivée de Team Envy avec deux victoires décisives dans les catégories Search and Destroy, et l’abandon de la précédente recherche par LG, les garçons en bleu étaient clairement les favoris. Cependant, LG a fait Envy tout facile en gagnant 6-2 et Octane laissant tomber 12 tués.
Dans un doit gagner jeu, le troisième match, Ardennes Forest Capture the Flag, LG a pris une avance de 2-0 en première mi-temps. Après avoir lutté pendant la première mi-temps, l’équipe Envyus a montré des signes de vie au cours de la seconde moitié, réussissant à capturer un drapeau, mais n’a pas réussi à égaliser le match en perdant le match 2-1.

Le premier jeu de la série était un London Docks Hardpoint. eUnited a absolument décimé Ground Zero aven une victoire écrasante de 250-112.
Le deuxième match, Ardennes Forest Search and Destroy, était un match beaucoup plus compétitif, avec Ground Zero prenant les trois premiers tours. eUnited s’a récupéré dans les trois prochains tours. Ground Zero gagnerait un tour de plus avant de tomber 6-4 à eUnited.
Le troisième match, London Hardpoint, était un autre match extrêmement divertissant. eUnited a commencé la notation avec 3 captures droites. Ground Zero s’a récupéré et a réussi à obtenir 3 de ses propres prises et des prolongations forcées. L’équipe eUnited s’est avérée être trop pour Ground Zero, parce qu’ils ont réussi à capturer un drapeau dans la première minute de prolongation.

Les finales du tableau des gagnants ont débuté avec un London Docks Hardpoint, dans lequel LG a mis en place une clinique dans une victoire 250-120 avec Octane et John 33 qui ont tombé 33 tués chacune.
eUnited entra dans le deuxième match ; London Docks Search and Destroy avec la foule de leur côté. eUnited a augmenté de 5-1, mais a lutté pour fermer le match permettant à LG de forcer un tour onze. En fin de compte, eUnited a continué et a pris la victoire 6-5.
Le troisième match ; London Docks Capture the Flag, LG semblait beaucoup plus à l’aise et a obtenu un contrôle de carte dominant bien que le score ne vous donne pas cette impression. LG a fini par gagner le match 5-3.
LG a mis en place une autre clinique dans le quatrième match ; Gibraltar Hardpoint dans une victoire 250-141 avec Octane qui a tombé un total monstre de 37 tués pour passer à la grande finale.

QUARTS DE FINALES DE PERDANTS :
NexTThreat vs Ground Zero:
Le premier match était un London Docks Hardpoint qui s’est soldé par une victoire de 250-120 pour NexTThreat. Ce match a été joué hors de vue des spectateurs et hors flux.
Le deuxième match était un London Docks Search and Destroy, qui a vu tours échangés de va-et-vient jusqu’au milieu de jeu. Après un score de 2-2, Ground Zero s’est échappé avec une victoire de 6-2.
Le troisième match, Ardennes Forest Capture the Flag, au Ground Zero domine tout au long du match en remontant 3-0 tôt. NexTThreat a réussi à capturer un drapeau avec moins de trois minutes restantes dans le deuxième tour, puis forcé des heures supplémentaires grâce à une utilisation efficace de scores. Toutefois, en prolongation, Ground Zero a réussi à obtenir la première capture et à repousser NexTThreat pour sécuriser le troisième match.
Le quatrième match, Gibraltar Hardpoint, ressemblait à une autre raclée de Ground Zero, NexTThreat étant en panne plus d’une minute à un moment donné. NexTThreat a réussi à revenir à une victoire 250-198.
Le cinquième match, USS Texas Search and Destroy, NexTThreat a réussi à démanteler les étoiles de Ground Zero dans Search and Destroy avec un revers de 6-1.

Cette série a été jouée hors flux et hors de vue des spectateurs. FaZe a gagné 3-1.

Le premier match du tableau de demi-finales de perdants était Ardennes Forest Hardpoint où NexTThreat a pris les devants au début de la première journée. Vers la fin du jeu, FaZe a fait un retour et a réussi à remporter une victoire 250-197.
Le deuxième match était London Docks Search and Destroy. Une fois de plus, le jeu s’est déroulé dans les six premiers tours, avant que FaZe ne termine le match 6-4.
Le troisième match : Ardennes Forest Capture the Flag, a vu NexTThreat attaquer le premier. FaZe a répondu avec une capture de leur propre. Après le match était 1-1, il s’est retrouvé dans une impasse jusqu’à la prolongation. En prolongation, Censor a réussi à tirer et à capturer un drapeau en 40 secondes. FaZe n’a pas été capable de battre cette fois, ce qui a permis à NexTThreat de remporter une victoire 2-1.
Le quatrième match était un London Docks Hardpoint que FaZe Clan a dominé tout au long de la rencontre, s’emparant d’une avance rapide et ne laissant pas passer le match 250-126.

Le premier match un Saint Marie du Mont Hardpoint, eUnited a réussi à faire une performance sur FaZe comme celle du quatrième match des demi de perdants qui a remporté le match 250-139.
Le deuxième match, Ardennes Forest Search and Destroy, était une série de victoires. FaZe gagne les deux premiers tours, puis gagne deux fois. FaZe a ensuite aligné trois autres tours, et eUnited en a remporté deux de plus. Finalement, au tour 10 FaZe a remporté une victoire de 6-4.
Le troisième match, Flak Tower Capture the Flag, était une impasse à faible score pendant une grande partie du premier tour jusqu’à ce que eUnited réussisse à capturer un drapeau près de la fin du tour. FaZe a réussi à répondre dans les deux dernières minutes pour égaliser le match, puis eUnited a capturé son propre drapeau avec 40 secondes restantes pour éviter la prolongation et remporter la victoire 2-1.
Le quatrième match était Ardennes Forest. FaZe a réussi à prendre une avance rapide, et autour de la marque de 120 points, eUnited a commencé à prendre le rythme. Bien que FaZe Clan ne soit pas très en retard. Le match a continué à aller et venir jusqu’à la toute fin où eUnited a réussi à tenir FaZe 250-235.

Le premier match était Ardennes Forest Hardpoint, dans lequel eUnited était dehors pour le sang. Un match très compétitif les a vu se venger de l’équipe qui les a envoyés dans la catégorie des perdants avec une victoire de 250-201.
Le deuxième match, London Docks Search and Destroy, a été compétitif lors des finales de gagnants et s’est avéré être encore une fois. Après avoir perdu un tour 11 dans la finale de gagnants, LG a décidé de donner à FaZe un avant-goût de leur propre médicament avec une victoire du tour 11, 6-5 en propre.
Le troisième match Ardennes Forest Capture the Flag est resté sans but réglementaire. eUnited a réussi à marquer le premier drapeau capturé 3 minutes en prolongation, mais LG a battu son temps dans la seconde moitié de la prolongation, remportant ainsi la victoire 1-0.
Le quatrième match Gibraltar Hardpoint était un autre type de jeu que ces équipes ont joué plus tôt dans la journée. Cette fois-ci, eUnited a retourné le script et a remporté la victoire 250-223, montrant qu’il ne faut pas les sous-estimer dans les types de respawn.

Le cinquième match était Ardennes Forest Search and Destroy. Avec LG qui semblait faible dans leur précédente SnD, c’était l’occasion pour eUnited de forcer une deuxième série. LG a montré pourquoi ils sont entrés dans le tournoi avec la première place avec une victoire dominante 6-2, remportant la série 3-2 et le tournoi sans laisser tomber une série.

Il n’y a pas eu de grandes surprises ou de bouleversements au Northern Arena Showdown au Imperial Cinema. Chaque match a été serré et livré sur la promesse d’excitation. Même si l’événement Call of Duty a commencé avec quelques retards, il vaut la peine de rester en retard. Ce sont les finales qui ont fait que les fans se sont battus en blanc alors que Luminosity et eUnited ont joué des cartes serrées, donnant à tout le monde un spectacle très apprécié qui termine tout sur une note positive.

Call of Duty World League 2017
The Northern Arena Showdown 2017 was the first time a Call of Duty World League tournament would be played in Canada. Montreal gathered the best CoD Esports teams for the weekend of December 16th and 17th, who would be competing in a 30,000$ prize pool and Pro Points.
The crowd was on fire all weekend and the casters kept the mood electric. Despite the absence of Team Kaliber, other heavy weights made the tournament exciting. The tournament kicked off with bracket play right away, with only eight teams there was no need for pool play.

WINNERS QUARTER FINALS:
Luminosity Gaming vs NexTThreat:
The first match of the tournament had Luminosity Gaming (LG) [Slacked, Octane, JKap, and John] facing off against NexTThreat [Censor, Ricky, Methodz, Nagafen]. The first match was a highly contested Hardpoint on Ardennes Forest, that was back and forth nearly the entire game. LG took control of the latter portion of the game and scraped out a 250-235 victory.
The second game of the series was a Ardennes Forest Search And Destroy. NexTThreat responded to the loss with a commanding 6-3 victory, with Methodz notably going off with a 12-5 K/D.
Game three of the series; London Docks Capture the Flag, was an extremely high-scoring match that saw NexTThreat jumping out to an early lead. After the initial flag capture the teams started trading flags until LG brought it to a 4-4 tie. Once the game was tied, LG walked away with a 9-4 blowout, with the majority of the flags being scored in the last half of the second half.
LG closed out their Winners Bracket Quarter Finals matchup with a dominant 250-156 win.

Team EnvyUs vs Echo Fox:
The first game in the Team Envy [Slasher, Classic, Huke, Temp] against Echo Fox [Assault, Faccento, Gunless, Goonjar] was a Gibraltar Hardpoint. This game was another back and forth tug-of-war which ended in Echo Fox scraping out the victory against the boys in blue 250-243.
Team EnvyUs was not phased by the game one loss, as in game two [Saint Marie du Mont Search and Destroy] they bounced back to a 6-1 victory.
The third game of the series was a Ardennes Forest Capture the flag, which in typical Ardennes fashion started out very slowly. After a highly contested first half, Team Envy was able to break the Echo Fox defenses and come away with a 2-0 victory in the closing minutes of the second half.
After the heartbreaking loss in game three, Echo Fox responded furiously in Ardennes Forest Hardpoint to force a game five with a 250-185 victory.
Team EnvyUs closed out the series with another decisive 6-2 victory on USS Texas Search and Destroy.

eUnited [Clayster, Arcitys, Prestinni,SiLLY] was clearly a fan favorite, with the crowd chanting Clayster before the match even began. Game one was a Saint Marie du Mont Hardpoint that eUnited took over Enigma6 [General, Dashy, Pandur, GodRx] in a confident 250-180 victory. Game two USS Texas Search and Destroy was much closer, with Enigma6 clutching out round 11 and securing a 6-5 victory. Game three London Docks Capture the Flag was another nail biter that eUnited managed squeeze out with a buzzer beater cap, winning the game 4-3.
… with the crowd chanting Clayster before the match even began.
After two very close games, it appeared that E6 was burned out. Game Four; London Docks Hardpoint, was a dominant performance for eUnited as they closed out the series in a 250-128 victory.

FaZe Clan vs Ground Zero:
The final matchup of Saturday night saw FaZe Clan [Attach, ZooMaa, Priest, Replays] taking on Ground Zero [Parasite, Blazt, Fero, Studyy]. First gametype of the series was a London Docks hardpoint that Ground Zero took easily with a 250-134 victory. Game two; London Docks Search and Destroy, was much more competitive. After rounds went back and forth between the teams, Ground Zero ultimately won a round eleven after a clutch two vs one play from Fero. Ground Zero was able to close out the series on Ardennes Forest Capture the Flag with a 2-0 victory, which sent FaZe Clan to the losers bracket.

Sunday kicked off with an all blue showdown with Luminosity Gaming going up against Team EnvyUs. Game one Ardnennes Forest, was a hard fought battle that ended in a 250-220 victory for LG. With Team Envy coming into the matchup with two decisive Search and Destroy victories, and LG dropping their previous search, the boys in blue were clearly the favorites. However, LG made Envy lightwork winning 6-2 and Octane dropping 12 kills.
In a must win game three; Ardennes Forest Capture the Flag, LG took an early 2-0 in the first half. After struggling during the first half Team Envyus was showing signs of life during the second half managing to capture one flag, but were unable to tie the game losing the game 2-1.

eUnited vs Ground Zero:
Game one of the series was a London Docks Hardpoint. eUnited absolutely decimated Ground Zero in a 250-112 blowout. Game two, a Ardennes Forest Search and Destroy was a much more competitive match, with Ground Zero taking the first 3 rounds. eUnited clawed back in the next three rounds. Ground Zero would win one more round before falling 6-4 to eUnited.
Game three, London Hardpoint was another extremely entertaining match. eUnited started the scoring off with 3 straight captures. Ground Zero clawed their way back and managed to get 3 captures of their own and forced overtime. The eUnited squad proved to be too much for Ground Zero, as they managed to capture a flag within the first minute of overtime.

The winners bracket finals began with a London Docks hardpoint, in which LG put on a clinic in a 250-120 victory with both Octane and John dropping 33 kills each.
eUnited entered game two; London Docks Search and Destroy with the crowd on their side. eUnited went up 5-1, but struggled to close the match out allowing LG to force a round eleven. Ultimately though, eUnited went on and took the victory 6-5.
Game three; London Docks Capture the Flag, LG looked much more comfortable and obtained dominant map control although the score wouldn’t give you that impression. LG ended up winning the game 5-3.
LG put on another clinic in game four; Gibraltar Hardpoint in a 250-141 victory with Octane dropping a whopping 37 kills to advance to the grand finals…

LOSERS QUARTER FINALS:
NexTThreat vs Ground Zero:
Game one was a London Docks Hardpoint that resulted in a 250-120 victory for NexTThreat. This match was played out of view of spectators and off stream.
Game two was a London Docks Search and Destroy, that saw rounds being traded back and forth until the mid-game. After 2-2 score, Ground Zero pulled away with a 6-2 victory.
Game three a Ardennes Forest Capture the Flag, at Ground Zero dominate throughout the game going up 3-0 early. NexTThreat managed to capture a flag with less than three minutes remaining in the second round, then forced overtime thanks to an effective use of scorestreaks. In overtime however, Ground Zero managed to get the first capture and hold off NexTThreat to secure game 3.
Game four, Gibraltar hardpoint looked like another Ground Zero blowout with NexTThreat being down over a minute at one point. NexTThreat managed to claw their way back to a 250-198 victory.
Game five a USS Texas Search and Destroy, NexTThreat managed to dismantle the Search and Destroy stars of Ground Zero with a 6-1 upset.

This series was played off stream and out of view of the spectators. FaZe won 3-1.

Game one of the losers bracket semi-finals was Ardennes Forest Hardpoint in which NexTThreat managed to pull an early lead. Near the end of the game FaZe mounted a comeback and managed to pull off a 250-197 victory.
Game two was a London Docks Search and Destroy. Once again the game went back and forth for the first six round, before FaZe closed out the match 6-4.
Game three a Ardennes Forest Capture the Flag, saw NexTThreat strike first. FaZe responded with a capture of their own. After the game went 1-1 it went into a stalemate until overtime. In the overtime Censor managed to pull and capture a flag in 40 seconds. FaZe was unable to beat this time resulting in a NexTThreat 2-1 victory.
Game four a London Docks Hardpoint that FaZe Clan dominated throughout, grabbing an early lead and not letting go winning the match 250-126.

Game one a Saint Marie du Mont Hardpoint, eUnited managed to put on a performance on FaZe like the one from game four of the losers simi’s winning the game 250-139.
Game two an Ardennes Forest Search and Destroy, was game of streaks. FaZe winning the first two rounds, then eUnited winning two. FaZe then streaked together 3 more rounds, with eUnited winning two more of their own. Ultimately on round 10 FaZe pulled out a 6-4 victory.
Game three, a Flak Tower Capture the Flag was a low scoring stalemate throughout much of the first round until eUnited managed to capture a flag near the end of the round. FaZe managed to respond in the final 2 minutes to tie the game, then eUnited captured a flag of their own with 40 seconds remaining to prevent the overtime and take the victory 2-1.
Game four was on Ardennes Forest. FaZe managed to take an early lead, and around the 120 point mark eUnited started to pick up the pace. Although FaZe Clan did not lag behind by much. The match continued to go back and forth until the very end where eUnited managed to hold off FaZe 250-235.

GRAND FINALS:

Game one was a Ardennes Forest hardpoint, in which eUnited was out for blood. A highly competitive match saw them get their revenge on the team that sent them to the losers bracket with a 250-201 victory.
Game two a London Docks Search and Destroy, was competitive in the winners finals, and proved so to be again. After losing a round 11 in the winner finals, LG decided to give FaZe a taste of their own medicine with a round 11, 6-5 victory of their own.
Game three an Ardennes Forest Capture the Flag remained scoreless in regulation. eUnited managed to score the first flag capture 3 minutes into overtime, but LG beat their time in the second half of overtime thus taking the victory 1-0.
Game four a Gibraltar hardpoint was another gametype that these teams played earlier in the day. This time however, eUnited flipped the script and took the victory 250-223 showing that they are not to be underestimated in respawn gametypes.

Game five was a Ardennes Forest Search and Destroy. With LG looking weak in their previous SnD’s this was the chance for eUnited to force a second series. LG showed why they entered the tournament with the number one seed with a dominant 6-2 victory, winning the series 3-2 and the tournament without dropping a series.

No major surprises or upsets happened during the Northern Arena Showdown at the Imperial Cinema. Every match was played close and delivered on the promise of excitement. Even if the Call of Duty event started with a couple of delays its was well worth staying late. It was the finals that made fans white knuckled as Luminosity and eUnited played back to back tight maps, giving everybody a well appreciated show ending everything on a high note.
